Contact Engineering TeamA hydronic fan coil is an indoor climate-control unit that uses chilled or heated water piped from a central heat pump or chiller to condition air in individual rooms or zones. A fan draws room air across a water-filled heat exchanger coil, delivering cooled or heated air without any refrigerant inside the occupied space. This makes hydronic systems safer, quieter, and more energy-efficient than traditional split AC.
A 2-pipe system uses one supply and one return pipe, providing either heating or cooling at any given time. A 4-pipe system uses two independent sets of pipes (one for chilled water, one for hot water), allowing simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones. 4-pipe systems offer greater flexibility for buildings that need heating in some areas and cooling in others at the same time.
iZONE fan coil units are designed to work with any hydronic heat pump or chiller that supplies chilled and/or heated water. They pair optimally with Karnot iHEAT R290 heat pumps for a complete PFAS-free system, but are compatible with any standard hydronic water loop operating within the specified temperature and flow rate ranges listed in each datasheet.
